2010 Dallas Golf Press Release

Dallas, Texas June 28, 2010. About 120 golfers took a swing at ending global poverty in the Fourth Annual Partnership Golf Tournament at the Fazio Golf Course at the Westin Stonebriar in Frisco. Approximately $186,000 was raised at the event.

The tournament began with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. following registration and check-in, lunch, a silent and live auction preview, drawings and contests. Participants enjoyed several on-course contests and challenges, including a Helicopter Ball Drop to win two tickets to the 2011 Super Bowl.

Following the tournament, some 250 golfers and guests enjoyed a reception, silent auction, a live auction hosted by Louis Murad of Murad Auctions and an awards banquet. Ms. Arezow Doost, a reporter for KTVT-TV, gave an inspiring first-hand account of her experiences in Afghanistan when embedded with the Texas National Guard in 2006, “The Aga Khan Foundation works in a country that I grew up in and has told the women and girls that there is an opportunity, and we are going to help provide it by building schools for young girls. Those schools are still thriving. When I talk to my family, they rave about one of the schools and what the girls say. You can’t put a price on the excitement or on the twinkle in their eye when they tell you that ‘I have a book, I have a pencil, and I didn’t have to fight with the boys to get it.’”

Chris Arnold, Master of Ceremonies of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, hosted the evening program. Special guests included actor Burton Gilliam, Dallas City Councilman Ron Natinsky, State Representative Angie Chen Button, President of the Trinity River Authority Board Danny Ventz and President of the World Affairs Council Jim Faulk.
