San Antonio Golfers Will Take Swing to End Poverty
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, AUGUST 15, 2011. On October 3, 2011, 150 golfers will take a swing at ending global poverty in the fifth annual San Antonio Partnership Golf tournament at the Canyon Springs Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. The San Antonio Partnership Golf tournament is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. (AKF USA) to raise awareness and funds that reduce hunger, disease, illiteracy and poverty in Africa and Asia.
San Antonio’s 2010 golf tournament raised $107,000 and is expected to raise more this year. 100% of donations and all net proceeds from the tournament go directly to AKF USA projects; not a cent is spent on administration.
The charity event attracts high-level corporate executives, civic leaders and local celebrities. Registration and check-in begins at 11 a.m., and participants can enjoy a lunch served before the tournament. The tournament begins at 1:00 p.m. with a shotgun start and includes a hole-in-one contest and other on-course contests and activities. After a day out on the course, participants will enjoy an auction, awards program and dinner starting at 6:00 p.m.
